TVS Sport vs Hero HF Deluxe: The Real Mileage King in Araria

If your only question is how far one litre of petrol will take you, the shortlist in Araria comes down to two bikes: the TVS Sport and the Hero HF Deluxe. Both are built for riders who count every rupee of running cost, and both sell in serious numbers across the district. We sell one of them and service plenty of both, so here is an honest look at where each one wins.

Mileage: the number that decides it

The TVS Sport is rated at around 73 kmpl, which is the highest figure in our motorcycle range and among the highest of any petrol motorcycle sold in India. The HF Deluxe sits in the same territory on paper, with Hero quoting figures in the high sixties to around 70 kmpl depending on variant. In real riding around Araria, with two people aboard and rough patches between here and Forbesganj, both drop from their claimed numbers, but the Sport has consistently held a small lead for the customers who report back to us.

Over a year that gap is not dramatic, but it is not nothing either. On 40 km a day, a difference of three or four kmpl works out to roughly a tank of fuel saved every couple of months.

Engine and everyday performance

The Sport runs a 109.7 cc air cooled engine making 8.18 PS, against roughly 97 cc and about 8 PS for the HF Deluxe. The extra displacement is the reason the Sport feels less strained when you load it up with a pillion and a sack of goods, or when you are climbing an embankment road. The HF Deluxe is smooth and light, but it asks for a downshift sooner.

Build and comfort on district roads

Both bikes use a simple, repairable layout, which is exactly right for rural Bihar. The Sport is the slightly heavier of the two at 112 kg, and that weight shows up as stability on broken tarmac. Its seat is long enough for a genuine pillion, and the suspension is tuned soft, which suits the monsoon-ruined stretches around the district. The HF Deluxe is lighter and easier for a smaller rider to manage in a crowded market lane.

Service, spares and resale in Araria

This is where buying local matters more than any spec sheet. TVS Madni Motors on Dak Bunglow Road is the authorized TVS dealership for Araria, so Sport owners get genuine parts, trained technicians and warranty work in town rather than a trip to another district. Hero has a wide network too, and that is a fair point in their favour. Both bikes hold their value well, because demand for reliable, cheap-to-run commuters never really drops here.

Which one should you buy?

• Choose the TVS Sport if you want the best mileage figure of the two, a bit more engine for pillion and load duty, and local authorized service in Araria.
• Choose the HF Deluxe if you want the lightest possible bike and the lowest sticker price, and you rarely ride two up.
• Either way, judge it on EMI plus fuel plus service per month rather than the showroom price alone.

Our own view, after selling and servicing these bikes in Araria for years, is that the extra 12 cc in the Sport pays for itself the moment you start riding two up every day. A smaller engine worked hard uses more fuel and wears faster than a slightly larger engine taking it easy, which is why the Sport tends to still feel healthy at 40,000 km.
